agnès films’ member Cait Davis‘ latest project, Stories of the Unconscious, is an experimental short film. In the hopes to raise enough money to complete the project, Cait launched a crowd-funding campaign. Chosen as 1 of 15 Founding Filmmaker projects on Seed&Spark, a new film-centric crowd funding platform, Stories of the Unconscious asks you to join the social media fundraising adventure. This is a team of independent artists excited to collaborate on a demanding and challenging project. To date, the campaign has less than 24 hours to meet the goal and has already raised $15,100 which is 91%. http://www.sotufilm.com
Stories of the Unconscious is a short film that consists of 9 surreal landscapes. Within the Unconscious, people live in a world where metaphor and symbol are as real as the weather, where the inner workings of the mind form the reality that surrounds them. Animals speak, statues bleed and people seek purpose in a world that is at once alien and familiar.
Using a variety of techniques, including live action and stop-motion animation, Stories of the Unconscious depicts a unique trip through the Unconscious.
Filmmaker Cait Davis speaks about the project, “I have always been fascinated by the undercurrent of reality, an interest in observing the world beneath the world brought me to studying psychology and is what ultimately led me to the works of Carl Jung and Marie-Louise von Franz. Not because I think every different viewpoint of unconscious processes is the right or accurate one, but because traversing this territory is what interests me. What is another way to see my life? There is the literal event that transpired, but how else can I examine it? These thoughts and questions are what have driven me to delve into the works of experimental artists, conceptual creators, people who are interested in expressing non-logical psychic contents because they see worth in another way of thinking. These non-logical expressions are not anti-thought, they are not other-than-reality, they are alternate ways of expressing what is real, they are ways of connecting to a different kind of experience.”
